Open Call: Messiaen-Tage 2026 | Live Act

Open Call

Perform together with Ensemble Écoute at the opening concert of the Messiaen-Tage 2026 Festival

We invite musicians of all nationalities who are currently residing in Poland, Germany, or France to participate in an international artistic project as part of the Messiaen-Tage festival, which takes place on the Polish-German border.

Together with the musicians of Ensemble Écoute, as well as selected candidates from Live Act Academy 2025, you will have the opportunity to rehearse and perform five large-ensemble works in concert, ranging from masterpieces of the contemporary repertoire to world premieres.

The project will take place in Görlitz–Zgorzelec, and the final concert is planned to be held at a place of exceptional historical significance: the Stalag VIII A Görlitz Memorial Site, now located in Zgorzelec. During World War II, the French composer Olivier Messiaen was held in this former prisoner-of-war camp, where in 1941 he composed and premiered his groundbreaking work Quatuor pour la fin du temps (Quartet for the End of Time), providing a powerful historical and artistic context for this project.

About the project

This initiative brings together young musicians living in the three countries who wish to deepen their knowledge of contemporary music while reflecting on the legacy of Olivier Messiaen in such a historically significant place.

Under the guidance of musicians from Ensemble Écoute (Paris, France), who specialize in contemporary music performance, participants will take part in rehearsals and perform in the opening concert of the Messiaen-Tage Festival – an international festival dedicated to music, history, and art.

Through this collaboration, young musicians will gain valuable professional experience by working side by side with internationally renowned performers.

The programme combines works by leading contemporary composers with the voices of a new generation from Poland, France, and Germany, while paying tribute to the extraordinary career of Betsy Jolas on the occasion of her centenary. The repertoire will also include a work by George Benjamin, a student of Olivier Messiaen.

Betsy Jolas – J.D.E.

Georges Benjamin – At First Light

Guilherme de Almeida – Zamilkły Działa

Davide Rizza – Débris de Fleurs

Michał Kulbacki – Poème érotique

Travel, accommodation in Görlitz (double rooms), and meals during the project will be provided.
