AIdentity – International Summer School Combining Artificial Intelligence, Remembrance Culture, and Historical-Political Education
How does artificial intelligence change the way we look at history? What opportunities and challenges does it create for remembrance culture in the digital age? These are the central questions of the international Summer School “AIdentity – The Past Through Modern Lenses”, which will take place in Görlitz from 18 July to 1 August 2026.
Organized by Meetingpoint Memory Messiaen e.V., the project brings together 25 young people from Saxony, Poland, Italy, and Ukraine. Through workshops, study visits, and creative project work, participants will explore the history of National Socialism, with a particular focus on Nazi forced labour in Görlitz and the prisoner-of-war camp Stalag VIII A. At the same time, they will develop a critical and responsible understanding of artificial intelligence and digital media.
At the heart of the project lies the question of how modern technologies can be used to communicate historical topics in ways that are contemporary, critical, and accessible. Participants will create their own digital media projects, including podcasts, videos, interactive maps, augmented reality tours, and AI-supported visualizations. In this context, AI is not treated as an end in itself, but as a tool for research, analysis, storytelling, and creative educational work.
“Young people use AI as a natural part of their everyday lives. This makes it all the more important to understand how these technologies work, recognize their limitations, and critically reflect on their impact on society,” explains project coordinator Mateusz Kowalinski. “At the same time, we want to create spaces where history can be viewed from different perspectives and where victim groups of National Socialism that have often received little attention become more visible.”

Szczególny nacisk położono na międzynarodową wymianę, różnorodność i włączanie społeczne. Summer School skierowana jest do młodzieży od 16. roku życia i tworzy inkluzyjną przestrzeń edukacyjną, w której spotykają się różne doświadczenia, perspektywy i kultury.
Projekt zakończy się publiczną prezentacją rezultatów w Görlitz. Uczestnicy przedstawią swoje prace i wspólnie z przedstawicielami środowisk edukacyjnych, kulturalnych oraz organizacji społeczeństwa obywatelskiego będą dyskutować o tym, jak może wyglądać demokratyczna kultura pamięci przyszłości.
Wszystkie opracowane materiały multimedialne oraz towarzyszący projektowi podręcznik metodyczny zostaną opublikowane jako Otwarte Zasoby Edukacyjne (Open Educational Resources – OER). Dzięki temu szkoły, miejsca pamięci i instytucje edukacyjne będą mogły z nich korzystać oraz rozwijać je w przyszłości.
Projekt Aidentity łączy edukację cyfrową, naukę historii i uczestnictwo w kulturze, tworząc innowacyjne europejskie przedsięwzięcie edukacyjne. Jego celem jest wzmacnianie kompetencji młodych ludzi w zakresie krytycznej refleksji nad historią, odpowiedzialnego wykorzystywania nowych technologii oraz aktywnego uczestnictwa w otwartym i demokratycznym społeczeństwie.
