Online meeting with descendants of prisoners of war

Online meeting with descendants of prisoners of war

On Monday, 27 October 2025, the Meetingpoint organised another online meeting with descendants of former French and Belgian prisoners of war at Stalag VIII A, which brought together 22 people on Zoom. Christophe Demullier, whose father Paul Demullier was imprisoned at Stalag VIII A and had to perform forced labour in various areas in and around Schreiberau (Szklarska Poręba), used his father’s example to illustrate the case of the group of ‘converted workers’ [travailleurs transformés] – prisoners of war who were often forced to renounce their status as prisoners of war and become so-called civilian workers. He also provided insight into his impressive research on reconstructing his father’s imprisonment, which ranged from classic archival work in France to visiting and exploring the places in present-day Poland where his father was forced to perform labour. We are very grateful for the interesting lecture and the lively discussion that followed!

Announcement (20.10.2025):

On Monday, October 27, 2025, the next online meeting with descendants of French and Belgian prisoners of war from Stalag VIII A Görlitz will take place. Christophe Demullier will present his research on the group of so-called “travailleurs transformés” – prisoners of war who were turned into civilian forced laborers.

The event will be held on Zoom and conducted in French.
