REMEMBERING MEANS [RE]ACTING!<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] 8 May 2025 <\/strong>marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the German prisoner of war camp Stalag VIII A G\u00f6rlitz <\/strong>and its numerous sub-camps. Around 8 May, Meetingpoint Memory Messsiaen – Verein f\u00fcr Erinnerung, Bildung, Kultur e.V. is organising a series of events with its partners in G\u00f6rlitz and Zgorzelec to commemorate the victims of the camp and the Second World War.<\/p>\n

This year we also like to invite you to participate in a virtual commemoration<\/strong>. We would love to get in touch with the families and descendants of the victims <\/strong>of the cruel crimes of the National Socialists and to honour the soldiers who were taken as German prisoners of war, who suffered and lost their lives in these camps. We also invite all interested individuals and organisations <\/strong>as well as former project participants <\/strong>and visitors to the memorial <\/strong>to take part in the virtual commemoration.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]The 2025 topis of the VIRTUAL REMEMBRANCE is: “REMEMBERING MEANS [RE<\/span>]ACTING” together for human rights and democratic values<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year’s 80th anniversary of the liberation of Stalag VIII A G\u00f6rlitz therefore combines the commemoration of the victims with an urgent appeal to all generations: REMEMBERING MEANS [RE<\/span>]ACTING<\/strong><\/p>\n

Respect for human rights <\/strong>and the defence of democratic values <\/strong>that protect minorities and the guaranteed freedoms <\/strong>that were fought for after the Second World War are one of the most important tasks for the future. We therefore call on you to stand up for these rights and to speak out against right-wing extremist voices and anti-democratic tendencies. Only in this way can we preserve an open and just society – against forgetting and for a future in freedom and democracy.<\/p>\n

The virtual commemoration will be published on the online platforms Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky and on the Meetingpoint Memory Messiaen e.V. website.
